My new Amigo...

Image
Amigos Mexican Grill, 3659 Lorna Road, Suite 133, Hoover 682-8090 (98 Health Rating, by the way). My favorite thing to eat since I was pregnant with Little girl has been Mexican, specifically fajitas. I am always up for trying new Mexican cuisine and want to try as many as I can in this lifetime. Tonight we tried Amigo's and I am IN LOVE. The food was wonderful. I love my chicken to taste, well, mexicany, NOT grilled. I love my salsa to be thin, not chunky. And I want NO onions in my fajitas- lotsa sour cream. My new Mexican restaurant best friend hit the mark on all points. SUPER FAST. Attractively decorated. Cheese dip was awesome. --And WHERE ELSE in the world can you hear a mariachi band sing "Sweet Home Alabama" and kick your 9 year old's butt in a game of pool. We had a great Friday night out and some good family time. The band sang Jimmy Buffett, too, and Baby girl danced away. I will certainly be back for more! Take lots of quarters for the kids to play and y

Sorry.....

That the political sign ended up right after the lighthouses. Hope it doesn't hurt.....

Vote for my Friend..... People of Helena

Image
Granted, I do not know Hal Woodman in real life, but if you ask me, I will tell you many noteworthy things about him and still tell you he is a close friend of mine.....that I communicate with daily. He is sincere in his love for Helena and his desire to see only the best things happen to our amazing little home. He is intelligent, creative, logical and open to new ideas and changes. He is an outside-the-box thinker who makes things happen. I mean, come on, who else can get me out in below freezing weather to hunt a plastic gnome . He has a great sense of humor and that is VERY important in life. He is a dedicated, family-oriented man who can iron clothes, make cool photoshop and video things and still find time to Hang out at Incahoots and write important news. He sleeps way too little. I can go on about the things I have learned about Hal in the past year, but will stop there. Please remember, Helena is a wonderful place to call home and we need to make sure we change and grow as n

Oh yes.....

I have been saving this one for you too.....from my favorite aunt. I know, I know.....stupid real job is cutting down on my blogging time during the week. I will hopefully get back in the swing of things soon. I hate being a responsible grown up and having bills to pay and such. Who knew Mom was right when she said my teen and college years were stress-free and should be enjoyed.

Happy Birthday, Doc!

Image
We celebrated our friend's birthday this weekend at the Plaza III Steakhouse in Brookwood Village. The Doc turned 41 and we had a great meal and great time celebrating with them. It is a treat to get dressed up and go somewhere fancy....and I do mean fancy. There was a minimum to hold the private dining room for the 9 of us and BELIEVE me it was not $50. The Plaza has choice cuts of steak and lobster as it's specialty. And an AMAZING menu of Martinis- especially the PlazaIIItini, their specialty, with some added peach schnapps, a Hawaiian-tinni, with Malibu rum and banana liquor for an amazing taste and an amazing concoction known as the Blue topaz. Here are our lovely taste-testers in action. We had shellfish samplers for appetizer, shared side dishes cheddar potatoes, brocolli and grilled vegetables and each ordered our own meat. I, of course, had the fabulous grilled chicken. The service was great, atmosphere was so comfortable and food was delicious. The lobster was HUGE

Green and Gold Football

Image
My little man set foot on the football field for the first of many times this weekend. I was so nervous- but he didn't seem to be at all- Pelham's football complex seemed to be a Pro dome as he stepped out onto the field for the first play--Such a big place compared the to practice field they have been on! Helena beat Pelham in the scrimmage game at the Green and Gold football jamboree! There were lots of families from Helena there to enjoy the night. We have a great group of boys, parents and coaches. It is going to be a fun season. Way to go little Wildcats!!!

Football!!!

Image
"Hey Mom! I got to say "The Lord's Prayer" after football practice." "Oh, baby! That is great!" "Yeah, Coach said I hit someone so hard that I made them cry- so I got to lead the prayer!"

Good Friends, Good Food, Good Times.....

Image
We went over to our best friends' house to eat and hang out this weekend. Princess and the Doc invited us to sample some of the southern Mississippi boy's Gumbo! The kids all had a great time and the GUMBO was SOOOO good. He used the recipe from the link below- worked on it for hours- chicken, sausage, fresh crab and shrimp, made his own stock and roux.... and it was worth every second. http:/ /www.gumbopages.com/food/gumbo .ht ml Good Food and Good Friends! What weekends are made for! And a good time was had by all.......

My Little Man: 1st Days of School

Image
First Days of School are always a big day! I have tortured my son each and every year with a photo shoot before he heads out. Look how he has grown! His feet grew 2 shoe sizes just over the summer and he put on 8 lbs and a grew a couple of inches. I Love you, my Little Man! Godspeed.

Anybody Can be a Poet

Image
Back in the days of teaching writing classes, a first exercise was always fun to use to get to know each other and prove that ANYONE can be a poet. Here is the format for an I AM poem. Fill in the Blanks and repost on your blog. These can be serious, funny, crazy.....whatever YOU ARE. Mine will post soon! My son did one and I may post it too. Get your kids to do one, print it on a cute picture, frame it. A great keepsake. I Am I am (two special characteristics) I wonder (something you are actually curious about) I hear (an imaginary or real sound) I see (an imaginary or real sight) I want (an actual desire) I am (the first line of the poem restated) I pretend (something you actually pretend to do) I feel (a feeling about something imaginary or real) I touch (an imaginary or real touch) I worry (something that really bothers you) I cry (something that makes you very sad) I am (the first line of the poem repeated) I understand (something you know is true) I say (something you believe i

My I AM

Gnome Hunt Loot

Image
Ok, Ok. So I didn't win the Golden Gnome Hunt. I am over it. Really. I am. But I did get myself some consolation prizes to help lessen the grief. The Biggest Tote Bag in the World, Animal print and Monogrammed just for me..... from Sew What . And a custom Name badge holder to match for my new official position---- (top secret clearance required.....) from Bead Biz , where Jess spent the day after the mad dash for clues. See what cute things you can get at our local little businesses??? Not a golden gnome, but will have to do. Oh and, Hewy did send me a Golden Gnome Piece of Flair on Facebook. Yet another consolation prize!
