Baby Girl Turns 5 and the Pinata Fun (Um...Fiasco...)

Image
I am really not sure how to begin the tale of Baby Girl's 5th birthday party. We had it at home and her only request was a pinata. Her Daddy got up really early the day of the party and went to a Mexican grocery store to have a good selection and get a "good one". There are lots of pertinent facts from here on in the story. ** It was one of those days when the temperature was in the teens and the high below freezing. **The year prior we had a pinata that you pull strings out of to win. She wanted a real one to hit. Daddy held it last year and the sweet little darlings pulled the strings until all the loot fell out. ***After the helpful employees at the Hispanic American grocery got the...and I quote....Gringo...a pinata down from the huge selection, he happily brought it home where we filled it with bags and bags of treats for the children. Now, you have just read about my family's tendencies to do things that are somewhat out of the ordinary and, well stupid. So I h...

Stoopid Contest Winner

Image
The winner of the family's STOOPIDIST things contest is (drum roll please......) MY SISTER..... she is the old one in the pic above.....looks good to be kinda dumb, doesn't she....!) For catching a bag of fireworks on fire in the floorboard of her car at a GAS STATION and throwing it OUT THE WINDOW!!!!!. A close second goes to: My MOTHER for running through a beauty shop wall and window while driving with a PINK cast on her foot. MY AUNT J for leaving her car running in the garage for 4 hours which ties with MY UNCLE C losing HIS car in the Brookwood Medical Center Parking Garage for over 5 hours. An honorable mention goes to- ME for locking myself out in a nightie and breaking a window with my BARE hand to get in Several votes were cast for the CURLING IRON TONGUE test....which, I admit was me also--when I was a stoopid teenager MY MOTHER once again for being a human trash compactor. Thanks for all the votes and comments on our family's lack of intelligence. I will be cre...

Baby Girl Knows Everything......

Image
My daughter never ceases to amaze me. Do not get me wrong, my sons amazes me too, but in just totally different ways. Example 1- MY SON LOSES EVERYTHING. MY DAUGHTER KNOWS WHERE EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSE IS. The item of loss this week was his library book. We searched and searched. The next morning, after he lost his library privilege the day before, He was trying to get me to pay for the book so he could go back to the library. I asked Miss Priss if she knew where the book might be. She had seen us looking frantically for it, yet never made a comment. " Um, yes. His book is in the grey car, in front of my car seat, in the pocket where I keep my movies. I put it in there when we went to Tucker Park the other day so it would not get lost." And, indeed it was. Example 2- My DAUGHTER is VERY OBSERVANT. We pass by the same route daily. A new building in front of Publix is going up, quite rapidly. She asked, "What is the new building going to be?" I said I wasn't re...

In the Spirit of Turning 40

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND THINKING, SURELY I CAN'T LOOK THAT OLD. WELL.... I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST. I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME. SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 20-ODD YEARS AGO. COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN? UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT. THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE. AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MY HIGH SCHOOL . "YES. YES, I DID. My Alma Mater, " HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE. "WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?" I ASKED. HE ANSWERED , "IN 1986. " "WHY DO YOU ASK?" "YOU WERE IN MY CLASS!", I EXCLAIMED. HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY. THEN, THAT UGLY, OLD, BALD, WRINKLED, ...

Rock Band: Rainy Day Fun

Image
For those of you who have not experienced this game....let me just tell you about it. I purchased this game for my Mother's Day present to myself , bought this for my son for an early birthday present. I have resisted playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band because honestly, I know my limitations and I would become obsessed/addicted. So today, as my son is at school, my baby girl and I have been singing Nirvana, Black Sabbath and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's....to name a few. And just so you know, I can get 99% vocals on "Dead or Alive".... the only Bon Jovi song on there. But only in easy mode. I tried expert and FAILED!!!! It is not just enough to know the words, obviously...you must be able to sing the right notes. My son bans me from playing the instruments while we are in the competition mode, because, well, I am terrible. So while he is at school, I practice. So as to impress him and his friends when the do let me play along, which is not often. Rock Band comes with 58 songs...

American Idol- and Drugs- Part 2

Image
I posted previously about taking medication and dreaming weird dreams about Idol. Well, last week, while hospitalized, I had another American Idol experience with drugs involved. I was in severe pain and on heavy IV pain medications. I had been resting comfortably in a room since Monday night, and on Tuesday, my sister came to sit with me. My sister is the absolute best hospital sitter you can ask for- but I am sure the hospital staff hates her tremendously. While they were taking good care of me, it is never good enough for Sis. Especially when I was resting, minding my own business, in a room with 2 beds- all alone. When suddenly, a commotion erupted. Another patient was brought in. .....Let me digress here to say that after arriving in the ER, lying on a table for some 5 hours, and finally being transferred to a Express Admit room- I was greeted by a 90 year old lady IN A BONNET that I was sharing my suite with --who kept asking me for a mirror in my purse so that she could see who...

Mudding: Spring Break Adventure #1

Image
Let me be the first to say that I am a girly girl. I hate to get dirty. I, like an idiot, got on the back of a 4Wheeler with my sister driving, thinking, stupidly that since my baby daughter was on the front, that I would be safe and we would take a nice leisurely spin around the nice trail in the woods. Before I could even get on good, she buried the 4-wheeler up well to my calves in mud and spun the tires until I screamed so much it made Baby girl cry. Yes, that is mud on my face, my glasses and my clothing. A great time was had by all. Except for me.

Monday Reflections of the Weekend: Sofa Crashing

Well, it was a very cold weekend with only a dusting of snow. Just enough for my son to make muddy snowballs and mess up about 4 sets of clothing- my husband says men do not have outfits. I hibernated all day Saturday and Sunday until the sun came out and it warmed up. I did have my new book and a nice fire to keep me happy. I finished the book last night and it was fabulous. I will write a full review soon, but I truly enjoyed passing the frigid temps with my latest read by my current favorite- Mary Kay. It was strange because I began the book CRASHING on the couch an Saturday- and finished it yesterday in a lawn chair soaking up some sunshine in the driveway watching the children play outdoors. My son has had a BB gun- camouflaged rifle, no less since he was 3. Yes, 3. My father has so many funny tales about finding things in the road. I guess he is very observant, but has found a new chainsaw, several ball gloves and, yes, my son's BB gun. He gave it to my son when he was 3 and ...
