October is My favorite Month

Image
Here are some reasons why..... . Cooler temperatures begin to relax us as Beautiful sunsets explode the glories of God with brilliant hues Crisp Air revitalizes our spirit as Pumpkins appear and Playing pretend is the thing to do Team spirit abounds and yet The holiday spirit manages to peek its excitement through the days October, my favorite month Bring us your pleasures and bring on the chill So our Souls and Soulmates can warm us As we prepare for the winter -CJK "October's poplars are flaming torches lighting the way to winter."- Nova Bair   "There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October." - Nathaniel Hawthorne I have been younger  in October than in all the months of spring. And this year. I celebrate my 1st wedding anniversary. (10.10.10) (my soulmate who warms me) ...

Warm Thoughts for a Cold Day:

Image
On the Jeep On the Ferry.   As I sit here inside on a day of ICE and cold, no one here or awake but me....I think about my life the past year.  I think of how much my life has changed and how much I HAVE changed. And it makes me happy. On October 10, 2010, I got married to my love in a BEAUTIFUL warm place, St. Thomas, USVI After our very special private ceremony at 8 in the morning, we took a jeep on a ferry and spent the rest of our wedding day exploring the most beautiful place I have seen thus far in my 42 years, St. John. St. Thomas is beautiful, yes.  But commercialized and inhabited and in some parts, very poor. Newlyweds at Hawk's Nest! Hawk's Nest Bay St. John is a great deal of park and reserve land so it is NATURAL and beautiful and unspoiled in so many parts.  We bought an Off the Beaten Path book, hopped in the jeep and headed out. The bays are amazing and the pictures I made of them are untouched and unedit...

Hello and welcome. They say home is where the heart is- well I discovered that some of my heart remains here. This land has been in my maternal grandfather's family for, well back to my great-great grandfather's time. In fact, this house sat at the back of the acres that I spent an amazing day exploring. My grandfather is one of the lads on the front porch of this house, which sat above the creek and the family mill. HIS grandfather is the oldest man in the black suit and hat. His father is somewhere in the porch shadows. Not sure if the house was crooked or the photographer was drunk, but a very cool picture indeed. Zooming in when I scanned it at high resolution affords many heart warming details of the life they lived. The land remains with a very special couple who have made the place a country paradise. I call her Aunt Mary George. Technically, she is not my aunt. But in the South, does that matter? She is a cousin to my grandfather, I believe, but they all grew up to...

I Am ALL ABOUT Pictures: Picnik.com

Image
I am all about pictures. Obviously, Huh. I have done some neat things with my own pictures and with my students that I want to share. Kinda a tech review. I have already told you about where I order my prints, Mpix .com, the greatest photo lab on the planet. I discovered a few programs and websites lately that are really cool tools that I want to share with you as well. I did a portrait of each one of my students, on a brick wall at the school. We took those portraits and used Picnik .com photo editing website. There are easy touch ups, amazing filters (effects), text, stickers, collages, cards....all that you can used for the most part, FREE and WITHOUT registering. Just upload, edit, download, print or share. You can choose the Premium membership (29.99 for the year, reasonable, really) to access some extra special features, but most of the necessary tools and lots of cool effects are free. You can also access your Facebook , Picasa Web Albums and many other services where you m...

She is 5. And I must take her picture.

Revised because of Google searches.......from stupid people. Isn't she the little model? Tucker Park- we trespassed at the cabin and it was worth it. I slipped her over the fence and I stood outside. She went on the porch and did her thing. Can you tell she has had her picture taken a few times??? .........And you know I had to change the title of this original post AND remove the PHOTOS because SICK people out there search for in appropriate things ON GOOGLE AND FIND THIS POST about my innocent beautiful daughter's birthday portrait sitting. You never can tell what some people will take and make ugly. Shame. Shame on you if this is YOU. GO AWAY.

With the passing of my MawMaw, I finished up the series of photographs I had been working on. I have been working on some final touches tonight.I am going to have a canvas done of each of these to hang on my walls in my family/antique room. Each of my grandparents and even a great-grandparent are represented with something cherished. What do ya think?

Fresh Fruit....

Image
My Mom's yard over Thanksgiving was so wonderful. We had fresh lemons, satsumas, grapefruit, oranges. They even have a blueberry patch! Ah, coastal living. One of the many perks: Fresh fruit year round. The children loved picking fruit right off the tree and eating it. We had to monitor them because picking was so much fun that they may have raided the crops if we had not!
